Ms. Sotolongo negotiates drafts and enforces complex agreements that protect and promote her clients' business interests. Her passion for media and entertainment law began when she worked for Universal Music Enterprises and Island Def Jam Universal Music Group, in both the Business Affairs and the A & R Operations department, on a variety of musical projects, while working closely with in-house counsel on contracting, music licensing and copyright infringement issues. As a sports and entertainment attorney, Ms. Sotolongo counsels and represents individuals and entities in all facets of the industries, in regards to contracting, copyright, trademark registration, licensing, performing rights organization management (ASCAP, BMI, etc.), royalty disputes, career consultation, sponsorships, negotiations, and business formation. A seasoned negotiator, she handles deals that involve all aspects of content creation, intellectual property rights, production, and distribution. She routinely shares her business savvy and insights with her clients, which notably includes record labels and professional athletes. Ms. Sotolongo is also an Associate Member of the Recording Academy, New York Chapter.
In addition, Ms. Sotolongo has garnered invaluable corporate experience while working in the legal department of Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC, under the supervision of the General Counsel. Ms. Sotolongo has also worked for the Honorable Francis B. Schultz in the Superior Court of New Jersey and Honorable Ester Salas in the United States District Court of New Jersey.
Prior to joining the DeCotiis law firm, Ms. Sotolongo was an associate with Mulkay & Rendo, P.C., where she practiced general litigation. Ms. Sotolongo is a graduate of Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business in New York where she received her bachelor's of science in business administration with a concentration in finance and a specialization in language and international business. Thereafter, she attended Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York where she received her juris doctor degree. While in law school, Ms. Sotolongo concentrated on intellectual property law and served as a member of the Cardozo Intellectual Property Law Clinic. Through her work with the clinic she became a published author of various works. Ms. Sotolongo was also elected to serve as the President of the Latin Law Student Organization and as the Chair of Alumni Relations.
As an attorney at DeCotiis, Ms. Sotolongo also provides advice on a variety of local government and school board issues, including public meetings, public records, procurement, condemnation, redevelopment, land use, and labor matters. She provides legal advice and services to Demarest, Fort Lee, Aberdeen, North Brunswick, Plainfield, Brick Township, Emerson, Elizabeth, Paramus, Newark, Trenton and Perth Amboy.
Ms. Sotolongo is admitted to practice in New Jersey and the United States District Court of New Jersey. She is also awaiting admission to the New York bar.
