Susan Fruchtman is a partner at DeCotiis. She joined the firm in 2000 and is a member of the Healthcare Law practice group and the Municipal Law practice group.
Ms. Fruchtman currently represents the City of Newark, Paramus and the Township of River Vale for real estate tax appeals.
Ms. Fruchtman also represents medical licensees who either apply for a New Jersey license or are the subject of disciplinary review by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners. She also represents physicians who are subject to disciplinary action at the hospital where they maintain clinical staff privileges. Ms. Fruchtman also represents physicians whose Medicare, Medicaid and/or insurance company provider status is subject to termination. Ms. Fruchtman frequently works with the attorneys from the DeCotiis White Collar Criminal Law section to defend healthcare professionals who have both criminal and administrative charges filed against them. In addition to Ms. Fruchtman's past representation of the medical staffs at Mountainside Hospital, Bayonne Medical Center and Irvington General Hospital, she represented the New Jersey Chiropractic Society in its successful effort to establish its own independent licensing board.
She is frequent speaker on a wide range of healthcare law topics. Among the organizations which she has appeared are the Medical Societies of Bergen County, Essex County, and Passaic County, as well as the New Jersey State Medical Society. Among the topics presented were The Medical Malpractice Crisis in New Jersey, Do's and Don'ts for Plastic Surgeons and regulatory updates. She was keynote speaker for the Practitioners' Club of New Jersey's Annual Dinner.
Representation of a physician reprimanded by the New Jersey Medical Board for an alleged violation that occurred while the doctor practiced medicine in California.
Representation of a physician before the New Jersey Medical Board who was found guilty of manslaughter in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Fruchtman received her B.A. cum laude from Boston University in 1971. She was awarded her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 1982. Ms. Fruchtman also has a Masters of Library Science from the Pratt University School of Library Science in Brooklyn, New York, which she received in 1972. Prior to joining DeCotiis, she was a librarian in Millburn, New Jersey and a practicing attorney in West Orange, New Jersey. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Montclair State College. She is fluent in French. Ms. Fruchtman is a New Jersey native and lifetime resident.
