Biography

Amy E. Shotmeyer Porter is an Equity Partner at DeCotiis. She is a member of the Litigation, Insurance Defense, Environmental Law and Green Practice Groups.

Mrs. Shotmeyer Porter joined the DeCotiis team in 2008, as a law clerk during law school. Since then, Amy has developed a legal practice that crosses several disciplines and includes work in the areas of complex civil litigation, insurance defense, environmental law, and affordable housing.

As a distinguished member of the firm's Insurance Defense Group, Ms. Shotmeyer Porter's practice revolves around defending public entities and agencies throughout the State of New Jersey, including municipalities, boards of education, municipal utilities authorities and housing authorities, in Title 59 liability matters. Over the years of defending public entities in diverse and complex liability matters, Ms. Shotmeyer Porter has become well-versed in Title 59 defenses and immunities. She has achieved a proven record of success in defending her clients' interests.

As a member of the Litigation Group, Amy has developed extensive experience in defending clients in employment and civil rights lawsuits, involving §1983 civil rights claims and claims under New Jersey's Conscientious Employee Protection Act and Law Against Discrimination.

Mrs. Shotmeyer also has significant experience with federal and local affordable housing programs and laws, including the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs, along with the State's COAH laws. Notably, she has been instrumental in representing numerous public housing authorities throughout the State in closing deals through HUD's RAD program. She is involved with the regulation, operation and management of various joint insurance funds formed by local government units throughout the State.

Mrs. Shotmeyer Porter received a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science and Science/Technical Writing from Lehigh University in 2005, where she graduated with Highest Honors. While at Lehigh, she was awarded membership into the Phi Beta Kappa Society (2005). Ms. Shotmeyer Porter received her Juris Doctor from Seton Hall Law School in 2010. While attending law school, she interned for the Honorable Claire Cecchi of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in Newark. In 2015, she received a Certificate in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute (Chicago, Illinois) through Moody's continuing distance education program; she continues her studies in other certificate programs through Moody.

Amy serves as the Vice Chair to the Foundation Board of Trustees of Christian Health (CH), one of the State's premiere non-profit healthcare facilities, located in Wyckoff, New Jersey. She also serves as a Board Member of CH's Operating Board of Trustees. At her law school, Amy is an enthusiastic member of the Seton Hall Law Alumni Council and serves as Co-Chair of the Alumni Giving Committee.

Mrs. Shotmeyer Porter has been annually honored as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers, since 2019. She has consistently been recognized by her peers as one of Bergen County's and (201) Magazine's "Top Lawyers". Amy is a proud New Jersey native and a lifetime Bergen County resident. In her free time, she is an outdoor enthusiast, a competitive runner, a speaker at her undergraduate alma mater, and loves mentoring law students.
