Biography

Edward A. Cienki is Of Counsel at DeCotiis. He is a member of the Healthcare Practice Group.

Edward A. Cienki is an experienced attorney specializing in healthcare law. Prior to obtaining his Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law – Camden, Mr. Cienki held numerous positions in the medical field, serving as in the beginning as a staff pharmacist up to an including serving in the capacity  of Hospital System General Counsel, as well as President & Chief Operating Officer at several highly respected institutions in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Cienki has spent the last eighteen years in private legal practice. As part of his work in the healthcare space, Mr. Cienki has assisted in the acquisition of an acute care hospital’s assets out of bankruptcy, serving as the hospital’s Regulatory Counsel and later as General Counsel. Mr. Cienki has also successfully represented parties who were targets of a United States Congressional investigation into prescription drug prices, and a clinical laboratory against allegations that the laboratory engaged in price gouging during the Coronavirus pandemic – claims which were found to be meritless.

Mr. Cienki’s experience includes general counsel work on behalf of solo-practicing health care providers and multi-hospital healthcare systems. His practice focuses on health and hospital law, medical practice law, licensed healthcare facility law, healthcare regulatory law, complex business restructuring, and commercial healthcare transactions. Mr. Cienki also has a background in the New Jersey Department of Health certificate of need process, including the procurement of regulatory approvals, transfer of ownership of general acute care hospitals, the establishment of psychiatric units, free-standing ambulatory care facilities, clinical laboratories, and urgent care centers.
