On April 19, 2018, Temple University will honor DeCotiis Attorney, John Palumbo, with the 2018 Young Alumni Diamond Excellence Award. This Award was established to honor outstanding achievements and/or service to the community of a Temple alumnus. The goal of this Award is to provide a role model for all current and future Temple alumni. Governor Ed Rendell and Olympic Gold Medalist Jason Read are past Award Recipients.
During his time at Temple, Mr. Palumbo was named team captain and most valuable player of the Men’s Football Team. In addition, Mr. Palumbo was the recipient of numerous all-conference awards and was named the Community Service Leader of the Month on three separate occasions.
After seeing the impact that athletes had on our youth, Mr. Palumbo was determined to make a difference in his community. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Palumbo teamed up with NFL Tight-Ends, Steve Maneri and Tony Moeaki, as well as ex-collegiate athlete, Charles Princiotto, to create the Kid’s Dream Big Foundation (“KDB”) – a 501(c)3 not-for-profit that motivates and inspires children to pursue their dreams, despite any adversity along the way. Mr. Palumbo described the vision behind KDB: “As Walt Disney once said, ‘all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. That is our credo. We want to inspire kids to truly believe that anything is possible, despite any adversity or obstacle in their way. With that said, we emphasize that achieving ones goals is not an easy task – we stress the importance of hard work, teamwork and accountability – all attributes we developed through sport.”
Notably, this past December, KDB hosted its Third Annual Holiday Shopping Extravaganza, where it took 200+ kids from the Hoboken and Jersey City Boys and Girls Club on a holiday shopping spree.
