Biography

M. Robert “Bob” DeCotiis founded DeCotiis, FitzPatrick, Cole & Giblin, LLP in 1986, and was instrumental in building one of New Jersey's preeminent law firms.

Over the course of a distinguished legal career spanning more than five decades, M. Robert “Bob” DeCotiis helped shape the practice of municipal law, redevelopment, land use, government relations, and public policy throughout New Jersey. As founder of DeCotiis, FitzPatrick, Cole & Giblin, LLP, he transformed a vision of client-centered, results-driven representation into one of New Jersey's most respected law firms.

Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Mr. DeCotiis is widely recognized for his commitment to mentorship and leadership development. He guided generations of attorneys, public officials, and professionals, instilling the values of excellence, integrity, professionalism, innovation, and public service that continue to define the firm today. Many of the firm's current leaders and accomplished practitioners began their careers under his guidance and continue to build upon the foundation he established.

Mr. DeCotiis's influence extends well beyond the firm. Through his work with municipalities, redevelopment agencies, educational institutions, businesses, and nonprofit organizations, he helped advance transformative projects, strengthen public institutions, and contribute to the economic growth and civic development of communities throughout New Jersey.
