Our Education Law Practice Group provides comprehensive legal counsel to boards of education, school districts, and higher educational institutions throughout New Jersey. With decades of experience representing public schools and institutions of higher education, our attorneys advise clients on the complex legal, regulatory, and operational issues affecting today's educational community.
We serve as trusted counsel on all aspects of school law, including board governance, labor and employment, collective negotiations, special education, student discipline, civil rights, ethics, public procurement, school construction, public finance, administrative law, and education litigation. Our attorneys regularly represent clients before the New Jersey Department of Education, the Office of Administrative Law, the State Board of Education, and state and federal courts.
Special education is a cornerstone of our practice. We counsel school districts on compliance mandates with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), and New Jersey's special education laws and regulations (N.J.A.C. 6A:14). Our experience includes advising on eligibility determinations, evaluations, Individualized Education Programs (“IEPs”), due process proceedings, mediation, student discipline, tuition reimbursement claims, out-of-district placements, and all other aspects of state and federal special education compliance.
We believe effective legal representation begins with proactive guidance. Our attorneys work closely with boards of education, administrators, and school personnel to identify and address legal issues before they become disputes. We also provide training and professional development on governance, ethics, labor relations, personnel matters, student discipline, special education, public records, and other emerging issues affecting school districts.
Drawing on the firm's multidisciplinary platform, our Education Law attorneys collaborate with colleagues across our labor and employment, litigation, public finance, construction, real estate, environmental, cybersecurity, and governmental affairs practices to deliver practical, strategic, and responsive counsel tailored to the evolving needs of educational institutions.
